One of the "Staff"

I've been regularly annoyed by a lack of attention to linguistic detail by the managers where I work. Indeed, to speak of lack of attention is, perhaps, wrong; they seem to attend to the wrong things, but never mind....

The most recent example is referring to teachers as "staff". My first thought is that the staff are the sort of workers who are easily replaced.

I just consulted a dictionary (Oxford I think) and found the second entry saying that staff referrs to non-teachers at a university. And the reference work says that is a USA (not a UK) usage....

What should I expect from non-teaching managers? Remind me to say something some day about the insanity of being "evaluated" by someone who could not do my job...

There is an issue here. How can someone not teach at all and pontificate about teaching?

But I recognize that more needs to be said.
